Welcome to Zambia Athletics Association
The Zambia Athletics Association (ZAA) is the national governing body for athletics in the Republic of Zambia. Established at independence in 1964, ZAA has been at the forefront of developing and promoting track and field sports throughout the nation.
As a member of World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), ZAA ensures that Zambian athletics adheres to international standards while nurturing homegrown talent to compete on the global stage.
Our organization works tirelessly to identify, develop, and support athletes from grassroots level to elite competition, ensuring that every Zambian has the opportunity to participate in and excel at athletics.

To develop, promote, and govern athletics in Zambia by providing opportunities for all to participate, compete, and excel in the sport while fostering national pride and producing world-class athletes who represent our nation with distinction.

Six decades of athletic excellence and national pride
1964
Foundation
ZAA established at Zambian independence to govern national athletics.
1991
World Champion
Samuel Matete wins Zambia’s first World Championship gold in the 400m hurdles.
1996
Olympic Silver
Samuel Matete claims Olympic silver medal in Atlanta.
2022
Commonwealth Glory
Muzala Samukonga wins Commonwealth Games gold in 400m.
